Why Venetian Plaster Prevents Mold
Although mold is found in nature, nobody wants mold on their walls. Insurance companies are paying hundreds of millions of dollars for mold-related claims. It is a very serious issue.
Mold can only grow in an acidic environment. So you may ask, “What does this have to do with Venetian Plaster”? As you know from your high school chemistry class, all natural lime plasters are alkaline. This means that Venetian plasters walls are not acidic. As a result, no mold can form on them.
The evidence is based on what is known as the pH scale. pH measures the activity of Hydrogen ions. The pH degree of acidity or alkalinity of a solution is measured on a scale (pH scale) of 0 to 14. Numbers below 7.0 indicate acidity; numbers higher than 7.0 indicate alkalinity. If a solution has a pH of 7.0, it is neutral, neither acid nor alkaline.
The primary ingredient of Venetian Plaster is slaked lime Ca(OH)2, which is produced from calcium carbonate that is mined and heated. Lime is alkaline in nature. In fact, lime is used to raise the pH of soil when it is overly acidic.
Since lime is alkaline in nature, Venetian plasters composed essentially of lime are not only breathable, but anti-mold.
Impact of Your Environment
How does this affect the quality of your life? If you believe the implications are obvious, many health researchers claim that due to environmental issues, our bodies produce too much acid that may cause chronic health problems.
Many people are more susceptible to colds, or to whatever “bug” is going around. More serious are increasing cases of autoimmune diseases such as lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, chronic fatigue syndrome, and fibromyalgia. Low-level toxicity from many sources can be very difficult to detect. The combined action of all these toxins creates a toxic cocktail which can seriously weaken the body and mind through a process known as “fermentation” or the over-acidification of the blood and tissue as a result of the proliferation of yeast, fungus, and bacteria.
“Yeast and fungus are single cell life forms which inhabit the air, soil, water, and many of the foods we eat. They are more highly developed than the intermediate states of bacteria or the early stages of viruses. Over the years, they have developed into over 500,000 different species. They are opportunists and survivalists”. (See http://www.supreme-greens.info/acid-alkaline-balance.html)
What we eat and the environment in which we live is directly related to our health. Mold in your home is unacceptable to your well being and health. When purchasing or renovating your home, make sure that your contractor takes actions that will prevent mold from invading your space.15 likes
